UMTS: Universally More Treasure Spent
Jan 3rd
Hello, and welcome back. Being busy and lazy after the partying to bring in 2010, I haven’t posted anything till today (although you’ll see a few posts backdated soon). So what better way to start a new year, and a new decade, with a new style of post – a proper opinion piece. So, sit back, and enjoy the first post of 2010.
Over the new year, needing to contact myriad people due to wanting to wish them a happy new year alongside organising certain events, I realised how much of a ripoff now more than ever Australia’s mobile telecommunications system is. Calling it “Australia’s” system however is a bit of a misnomer – of the four major providers, only Telstra is majority Australian-owned (with SingTel Optus being owned by the Singaporean government, 3 by the Chinese and Vodaphone by the British).
Ah Crap, It’s almost 2010

So why is this a problem? Despite it being the year 2009, I’m still living like it’s 2000 (or partying like its 1999). When I hear 1990, I think it’s only 10 years ago, not 20. When I hear 1970, I think it is 30 years ago, not 40. WHEN I HEAR 1950, I THINK IT IS HALF A CENTURY (50 YEARS) AGO, NOT 60, EVEN THOUGH HALF A CENTURY SEEMS TO SOUND BIGGER.
So, over the next few days right now, I’ll bring you the best of the decade. I was intending to make a video with all the events that have happened to a modified version of “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, but this guy beat me to it, which saves me two days in time. Anyway, enjoy!
Merry Actual Christmas

In all seriousness, I hope everyone has a good time.
Although my points before still stand.
Merry Fucking Christmas
Dec 20th
Well, it’s that time of the year again where I make a Merry Christmas post, or to be more politically correct a “Happy Holidays” post. However, to echo the sentiment on Scott’s blog,
Why must be all stick to this generic bullcrap? So nobody feels ‘left out’ or discriminated against? What are we primary school kids?
I do respect those who do have other views however if you do, simply just ignore this post. All problems solved. The majority who do share this belief still should be able to do so without having to water it down to make it such a shadow of its former self it loses all meaning.
Since all my ideas for this rant keep leaving my head before my fingers catch up, I’ll leave it there. I hope you enjoy whatever you are celebrating as well as my favourite performance of this Christmas song.
Fail of the Week: Me! Also, I’m back.
Dec 19th
Surely you must have noticed my absence… especially since it was quite noticeable and prolonged (then again there have been year-long breaks with this blog, so its quite short in context).
Well, really it wasn’t that surprising, however I thought I’d keep it up for longer. The posts died out however after a recent holiday (which wasn’t for the whole time such that it isn’t an excuse) I have regained the energy to restart posting. So from now on, expect another patch of near-daily information spewing service!
Also expect some backdated posts which I intended to write but couldn’t be bothered to before (editing this post now, I’ve managed to add enough posts to give you the impression that nothing ever happened – however since I can’t think of a better “I’m resuming posting” page, this will remain).
And so you’re back, from outer space…
So yes, thanks to a combination of factors, and in a variety of ways, I’m back. However, I really don’t have anything blog-related that is exciting to add for you – however that’s mainly due to the whole thing being a blur. You might see something soon.

Xbox 360: What’s the hype?
Mar 24th
So I ended up going down to the shops, but couldn’t see what all the fuss was about with the Xbox 360. The graphics are slightly better, but besides that I think it’s no different. Well, I’ll have to wait a few months for the PS3 to come out.
Xbox 360

The XBOX 360 came out today. To me, it’s no big deal as I’m a PS3 buyer. Looks good compared to the current consoles, don’t see the big rush though. Gonna go and check it out at the shops later.

An Unexpected Post on the Environment

Firstly, before I get to the real business, I thought I should mention the details around why there hasn’t been much content around here for a while. Firstly, I have been very busy studying Engineering, and secondly, I have been using Tumblr (http://trisreed.tumblr.com/), however I am now in process of integrating the two.
And on that note, it is a post by my good friend James on Tumblr that has prompted me to make a post. As someone who is well known for being left leaning, when it comes to the environment, I am not necessarily. You can view James’ post at the following URL: The James Blog, which discusses how humans are “slowly and surely we are destroying our planet”. Make sure you keep following his blog, it is awesome!
